These are some of Gwen's most memorable and meaningful
quotes. She always speaks her mind whether it be from a song, public
function, or magazine article. This is what makes her so wonderful!!

"Hey everyone, Gwen here. Tom, Tony and Adrian will be checking
in here soon but I wanted to drop you a little note to let you know
what I am up to.
The last 18 months were so incredible. After having done the songs
with Moby and Eve we recorded the "Rock Steady" record
all over the world with so many amazing people. Then, after the
MTV Awards (and 9/11) we were lucky enough to go on tour with U2.
The next twelve months was a blur for me with so many amazing first
time experiences finishing with us getting to play "Message
in a Bottle" with Sting at the Super Bowl and then performing
at the Grammys where we actually won an award! Oh yeah, did I tell
you I got married?? Married life is bliss, by the way.
After all that I figured I would just chill in London with my husband
but interesting things keep popping up. I have been working super
hard on my L.A.M.B. clothing line. I think you will start to hear
more about it and see it soon. It has been a total blast and a lot
of work but it has also been a real cool creative outlet. I have
also looked at some scripts and, although I really haven't made
a decision yet, if the right part were to come along I think I would
try working in film. I have always had a real love for making videos
and the filmmaking No Doubt did. Who knows? I think it might be
another challenging place to express myself creatively.
I have also been collaborating on some tracks on my own with different
people. I am not quite sure if it will become a full-blown solo
project, singles for a soundtrack or just songs (like with Moby
and Eve). I am just kind of letting it take me where it takes me
and see what happens. It is all part of a process for me, sort of
an extension of the challenge No Doubt gave ourselves on "Rock
Steady." I want to explore all of this during the No Doubt
hiatus. We'll see where it takes me!
Thanks again for all your support over the past 16 years and specifically
during the whole "Rock Steady" record. As a band we have
never had more fun and enjoyed our fans more than during that record.
You guys were all great!
Love,
Gwen

"We haven't had time to feel pressure. We've been so busy
and having so much fun. We rehearsed until two in the morning and
we're freaking out like, "Oh my God, I can't believe we're
playing with U2 and we don't know our songs." I'm trying to
remember "Just A Girl." I'm like, "God, I can't remember
the words."
""Hella Good." That was a song that we had experimented
with on this record, writing with some other weird freaks. We hooked
up with these guys called the Neptunes, who basically everyone knows.
They have, like, 4 billion hits out right now. We just wanted to
see what would happen the kind of cultural collision coming
from the hip-hop world and a true band. It's the first time [we]
had written with other people before, and it was really hard. It's
like getting naked and trying to get really intimate with people
you don't know. We ended up writing a song called "Hella Good"
and we took it to Nellee Hooper."
"Like it doesn't even really need to be remixed, but the remixes
are going to be insane."
"It was really inspiring to go out and listen to music and
dance and roll in at like two in the afternoon and try to write
some songs."
"I love the idea of different cultures coming together and
trying to make something great. I think that's really fresh. "
"We were so excited about the record, and all of a sudden
it just deflated us. We just felt like, "What are we doing?"
"How can we help?" "It's not gonna be appropriate
to put this party record out." [Then we were] getting a little
more perspective on the whole thing and looking back at history
and seeing how music is such a gift and a healer and so powerful.
Now I feel like it's coming out with perfect timing to be a diversion,
a little bit of a break and a little bit of fun. Hopefully it will
help in that little, small way. "
"We were gonna fly home from London. We were all really scared
about that. [Adrian] wanted to get home to his wife. Tony was really
fearful of being Indian. He's like, "I gotta be next to you"
the whole time... You're my Tony, my friend, and all of a sudden
now you've gotta be worried about going outside, or maybe you should
keep your hair blond, thinking about crazy stuff. "
"Basically, we've known Sublime since 1989 and played tons
of shows with 'em. And then, we lost a very talented and amazing
singer/songwriter because of drugs, a total waste."
"Just because we haven't done it, we've been surrounded by
people that do do it. I mean, the whole music business is surrounded
by it all the time. It's right in out faces all the time too and
it's scary. So of course we want to be involved. It frightens me,
really frightens me. I always used to have nightmares about stepping
on needles and stuff like that. Heroin's, like, the scary one for
me."
"Last night we played a show and my older brother Eric was
there and so I dedicated "Don't Speak" to him, so he got
very emotional. And then we played an old, old song called "Total
Hate" afterward so he did a stage dive and totally hurt himself,
like, really badly. He has this totally big bruise on his back.
I thought that was really funny, because he's almost thirty, and
he probably permanently injured his back!"
